Another year of activity, learning, and Lego Robotics/SCRATCH has come to a close. We enjoyed working and creating together and our time sharing at the Open House. We hope you have a terrific summer!

Along with our Lego Robotics Exhibition, today a small group of students performed a skit for one of the class planet projects. Each student studied a planet or space related topic and presented their information in a final project this week. This year students created planet and moon cubes, a timeline, a comic strip, poems and short stories.
Enjoy the video of the planet skit about Pluto and a couple students demonstrating their robots.

A quick note students will not need money for a snack tomorrow, Friday, June 19 since we will be making edible spacecrafts and having snack in the classroom.
Students had a wonderful time at the Science Museum of Minnesota. Highlights include the Omni film Journey to Space and the special exhibit Space: An Out-of-Gravity Experience.

This week we have watched videos, read books, and will research on the internet for our planet projects.

Students have been busy exploring SCRATCH and robotic Legos. We have been discussing misperceptions about space and things that scientists, engineers, and astronauts need to consider before space travel in preparation for our field trip. We even enjoyed a taste of freeze-dried ice cream!

Students are continuing to enjoy learning about SCRATCH programming, Lego robotics, and outer space! Today we researched some of the planets we are interested in learning more about, discussed things we might need to consider before visiting another place (from Earth to outer space!), and worked on our SCRATCH and Lego projects. Tomorrow a permission form for our field trip will go home with students. Please look for it or feel free to download a copy here.

This year our Lego Robotics class has plans to visit the Science Museum of Minnesota for our extended day on Thursday, June 18th. We have a special opportunity to view an Omni film and tour the exhibit Space which corresponds nicely with our curriculum.
We are writing to inquire among parents or guardians to see if there is interest in being a chaperone for the field trip because there may be limits on chaperone attendance. If you are interested in attending the field trip, please return the form that was sent home with your student or email us as soon as possible. The cost for chaperones will be $16.00 and we will be gone from the North Branch Middle School from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
We are look forward to hearing from you!
Sincerely,
Tara Lindahl and Mary Berning

Welcome and hello fellow explorers!
We hope you are prepared for a fun-filled time at Project S.E.E.K. this year! It’s not too early to get excited to build your own robots with Lego Mindstorms and create your own animations with SCRATCH software.
Your “homework” assignments, before we see each other on June 11th are to:
- draw and/or describe what you think the surface of Mars looks like
- draw a picture of a robot that you would like to send to outer space. List what your robot would be able to do.
- a pencil
- a 3-ring binder or folder to keep your ideas in
Until June 11th, make the most out of the school time you have left. If you have further questions you can contact us at:

PS Due to food allergies, this year Project SEEK will be peanut and tree nut free. If you choose to bring a snack, check the ingredients to see that there are no peanuts or tree nuts in it. Thanks in advance from all of us at Project SEEK.
