We learned to start a fire without matches! There are many different ways to start a fire without a match or a lighter. We also learned about self-applied first aid. These skills would be helpful in a survival situation. We also participated in a hypothermia exercise. Congratulations to Adam and Joe for the fastest times!

We learned to erect emergency shelters! Tarps and garbage bags have more than one use, you know! Congratulations to Kai, Wyatt, Xander, Quintin and Jacob for winning the shelter contest! We also learned how to signal for rescue using CDs, mirrors and whistles. We practiced making pressure bandages as well.

We reviewed fishing laws and fire-starting today! We are excited for our fishing trip next week. We learned about different types of fish and regulations for the lake we will be fishing on. We also learned how to make an alternative fishing rig using a pop can and line.

We had a blast at Wild River State Park! We practiced compass orienteering and GPS geocaching. A big thanks to Mike, the park ranger who taught us these helpful skills. Hopefully, a compass or a GPS will keep people from getting lost in the wilderness.
Afterwards, we started fires and cooked tinfoil burgers. They were delicious! Students participated in a photo scavenger hunt and found a lot of interesting plants and animals.
